Effective writing on the Internet requires that you communicate the benefit of your offering early and as effectively as possible. Think about it for a second – when you are browsing the Internet and come across a certain website, don’t you immediately ask yourself how that website can benefit you?
Likewise, your visitors will do the same. Understanding you audience is the key step when it comes to communicating the benefit to them early. If you know your audience, you must know what will entice and attract them to your website and keep them there. You must know what they are looking for and need. That is why you are on the Internet to begin with isn’t it? You are there to cater to your website visitors.
So forget everything else and focus on stressing the benefits of your offering. Once you feel like you’ve done this successfully, move on to other facets of your website such as who you are, a bit about your website’s history, etc. all these other facets are important, but they are all secondary to your primary objective in effective writing; which is to convey the benefit to your visitor immediately and effectively.

Couple other things to keep in mind are “pre selling” and developing your own unique tone. Pre selling is the process by which you warm up your visitor to a sale by providing good quality content that over delivers their expectations.
Don’t try sell too hard. In fact don’t sell at all. Discuss your subject openly, directly and honestly while providing relevant content and the sales will come. Sooner or later your visitors will gain the confidence and see the credibility in you to open up their wallets.
Developing your own unique tone will help establish that relationship you want with your reader. Your visitor must see your personality through your website. Be unique, be yourself and always stick to that tone. Speak from your experiences and develop that connection with your visitor.
Include Your Product Or Service On The Home PageIf you have an eCommerce site, present your products or services on your home page. Your visitors must know what you are offering to them right away! The last thing they want is to see a lot of text but no product images.
Not everyone will read everything on your website. Save all the wonderful stories for other sections such as the “About” and “Contact” sections. Keep your home page concise and to the point.
Create A Search & Sitemap FunctionOften neglected is a site map and search function within a website. These sections are important so that your visitors can find their way through your website, especially if you have a lot of WebPages.
In addition, search engines like to see interlinks between WebPages. Include a snippet in your directory section that briefly explains the content of each WebPage listed. At the very least, include a link back to your home page on every page of your site.
Keep your table of contents or navigation menu consistent from page to page and clean in appearance. Locate this in a visible area such as the left hand side of the screen or the top header.
