Making Sense of Websites
Making sense of websites can be fairly simple for someone new to website design. After all you just have to learn how to create a website and you’re all set right?
The Internet is an interesting place. Though it’s simple to get on it by quickly putting together a website and getting it hosted on a server, it is difficult to be found in Cyberspace considering there are millions and even billions of other websites out there.
So how does your target visitor know your website address or URL? How will they find you if you personally don’t tell them how to get to your site? Do you see how rough it could be out there?
There are two high level concepts to understand when it comes to website visibility. Anyone can build a website (it is just so easy today and you don’t even need to know how to code in HTML), but to get it seen and indexed by search engines you must understand Search Engine Optimization (“SEO”) and Search Engine Marketing (“SEM”).
Building a WebsiteThere are three key steps to build a website. You will need a domain (your web address or URL), a web host to host your website so everyone can see it on the Internet and an HTML Editor so you can build webpages.
But before any of that you need to determine your website purpose and contemplate a site concept. Read this detailed discussion on developing your site concept and come back here to continue reading this rest of this discussion.
You need to pick the best possible domain name and ensure the hosting you get is sufficient for your website purpose. Read a comprehensive discussion on domain names and hosting a website and come back here to continue this discussion.
And to determine which HTML Editor will best suit your needs, read the section on HTML Editors and come back here to continue this discussion.
Game of KeywordsMaking sense of websites will suddenly become all very clear once you understand how search engines work. Search engines are who will tell the world about your website. But for search engines to know that you exist, who you are and what you do, you will have to tell them yourself.
The Internet is run by keywords. The keywords you use on your webpages, certain fields within your pages (heading, title, description) will tell the search engines what your website is about.
Read more about choosing good keywords here and return back to continue this discussion.
Search engines send out search spiders (codes) that crawl your website. These spiders take what they find and report back to search engines. The better the content of your website, the happier the search engines will be. The better your site is “laid out”, the easier the spiders can crawl it in its entirety no matter how big it is.
This is where your website design and SEO become critical. Remember, you need to let the search engines know that you exist and are ready to be crawled by their spiders on a periodic basis.
And with all that said about keywords, SEO, website design and search engine submissions, focus on creating good quality content for your webpages. Your primary job is to please your human visitor, and only then the search engines.
Traffic is KingNothing means anything unless you can drive traffic to your website. Without traffic even the best designed website is useless. If you did your SEO properly and submitted your website to search engines I’d say you are half way there.
Now you need to market and promote your website on the Internet. This is known as Search Engine Marketing (“SEM”). There are so many things you can do for SEM such as Blogging, Article Marketing, eMail Marketing, Podcasting to name a few. I can write 3,000 pages on SEM alone. Read a more comprehensive discussion on Internet Marketing and then come back to finish making sense of websites.
I understand it has been a long journey so far but You are almost there! This is all worthwhile learning if you are going to be successful on the Internet.
So Is It Best to Just Hire Someone to Do All This?Absolutely NOT! But if you are going to hire a web developer, make sure you ask them to teach you how to handle your website (make changes, add, delete, etc). You don’t want to be left hanging after being handed your website.
Also, make sure the web developer has knowledge of SEO so that each webpage is optimized for search engines. Frankly, most web developers have no idea about SEO. They simply know how to design and build a website.
I strongly recommend you stay away from this route. Nothing is difficult for you today with the automated tools available readily and at such low cost. Read more about why I recommend building your website yourself and not hiring a web developer.
SBINot one of the concepts mentioned in this discussion is not covered by SBI. SBI is an all in one comprehensive website building and marketing tool that simplifies things but putting all the components of web development and marketing in one spot for you.
This website you’re on was built using SBI. I have kept things extremely simple in the original SBI format so that I can show you that it is possible to create a large, successful and good looking simple site with SBI.
The best part about SBI is the traffic building features. SBI is the master in getting you free search engine traffic no matter what your website purpose is. From the very start, its comprehensive tools and databases will help you find a profitable concept or niche to build a site about.
Once you have done that, it will help you brainstorm all the profitable and highly demanded keywords in your industry. It will help you find the best domain for your website concept. Hosting already comes with SBI so you don’t have to worry about that either.
Then SBI provides a simple block by block webpage builder. You don’t even need to know HTML programming. This is entirely meant for someone new to websites. Once you gain some experience developing webpages, SBI also allows you to build pages in another HTML Editor and upload them to your SBI hosting to take advantage of the SEO and SEM capabilities of SBI.
Once your webpages are built, SBI analyzes each page individually and tells you where and how to make the change until you get a 100% score on search optimization. This includes evaluating your webpage URL, keywords, heading, description and keyword density in the body of your webpage.
SBI will then guide you into the simple process of creating a sitemap to submit your site to search engines. And you only have to do it once! SBI automates the entire process after that and submits all your new content, modifications, additions and deletions to search engines.
SBI has a comprehensive program dedicated to link building available to you as well. With this tool you can build and manage back links to your website easily and the entire process is automated for you. You can quickly get your page rank up there with this tool.
Then you have a one stop spot to study and manage the traffic of your website. Learn how your visitors found your website, what they did once they were on your site, for how long, where they are from, what search terms they typed, what made them stay or leave, etc. This single tool alone can overwhelm someone with all kinds of valuable information you need to tweak your site to better fit your visitor’s needs.
All that is just the start my friends. The real fun begins now. SBI will show you more ways to make money from your site and traffic that you have ever imagined. You will also have access to thousands of pages of quality information addressing each and every need you might have.
There are just so many free resources, articles, forum discussions, coaching support and much more that are available at your disposal all for free. Learn more about SBI and see it for yourself. This one tool alone has changed the lives of so many people.
ConclusionAll this can be overwhelming but it doesn’t have to be. Take it one at a time, learning and understanding each concept involved. This website you are on should give you enough information to get comfortable with websites and everything else that has to do with them.
Making sense of websites was overwhelming for me too initially. But that goes with anything we are unfamiliar with right? Think about your profession when you were new to it. Wasn’t it overwhelming too? And with time you have learned and progressed so much!
The same goes for websites. Once you get comfortable with them, the rewards are just endless. You can do so much the sky is the limit. And the best part is that none of this is hard at all! Just take it one at a time.
Bookmark this site and visit often. I promise you will get to wherever you are trying to get before you even know it. You will also have a lot of fun at each and every step of your journey!
Remember, if you don’t want to learn everything individually one at a time and put the puzzle together, you always have a all in one comprehensive tool in Site Build It! (“SBI”) to simplify things for you!
