Earn More From Adsense Using These FREE Tools

If you make money from Google Adsense or are planning to, learn how you can earn more from Adsense in this discussion.

I have been making money with Google Adsense since 2007 and have had the pleasure and extreme excitement to witness my paychecks steadily grow from month to month. I still remember the first time I implemented Adsense ads on one of my websites. I earned a whopping 65 cents for the entire day.

Just a few months later I was earning $50-75 consistently and about at the 12 month mark started earning well over $100 monthly. Adsense pays out monthly only if you earn over $100. If you fall short, your earnings are rolled into the next month so don’t worry, you don’t lose the money.

My earnings have exponentially risen over time easily surpassing the $1,000 per month mark into a few thousand dollars. There are many other Adsense users who are making a comfortable six figure income annually. Read this USA Today article about a handyman who generates well over $100,000 in Adsense income from his website. And perhaps the most popular Adsense check image online is Jeremy Shoemaker’s gazillion dollar check below:

A contributing factor to my increasing Adsense earnings has been my consistent fine tuning of how I choose to display ads on my website. Take a minute and visit my Dubai City website and just observe how I have ads placed throughout the site. Although it may seem arbitrary to you, my ad placements are actually quite strategic.

I have learned and implemented several Adsense enhancing techniques over the years that have helped me increase my Adsense earnings. You too can earn more from Adsense by applying the same strategies. It’s just a matter of reading, learning and then applying them.

In this series I will present some tools that have helped me get to where I am today as I write this. I hope they will serve you equally as well and may you see your earnings from Google Adsense steadily rise over time.

The Google Adsense Heat Maps

This is the first thing you should have done. The Heat Map shows areas of focus on a computer screen. In other words, where website visitors focus their attention on. This is no jibberish. This map is quantifiably (is that a word?) proven time and again. Try it yourself and you will notice an immediate change in your earning patterns (especially if you are currently displaying ads in all the wrong spots).

Google, Yahoo & Chitika Ads Preview Tool

Now that you have seen the heat map, consider this neat website. This was designed to give you a glimpse of how different ads would look like on your website or blog. This site compares ads from Google, Yahoo and Chitika so you can see how different types of ads would appear. You can also input a website’s URL and see the ads that are likely to appear on that website (URL).

I wished the creator of this site updated it as more contextual ads vendors came out. For example, Text Link Ads or Oxado came out much later than AdSense. It would have been nice if it was updated for the new programs that came out later. However, this tool is pretty good as is.

The AdSense Sandbox

This is another tool you can use to see what types of ads are likely to appear for a given URL. Let’s say you don’t have a site yet and are wondering what types of ads would appear on your website and which vendors are competing for the ads, you can pick a competitor website and enter their URL address. You can then see the ads likely to appear on their website.

AdWords Bidding Tool & Traffic Estimator

This is an excellent tool to find out which are the highest demanded keywords out there that pay the most for AdSense ads. Not knowing this information is worse than shooting in the dark. Wouldn’t you rather know what search terms will fetch you the most revenue so that you can use them in the content of your website or blog pages?

You can enter specific keywords and find out how much money you can make on a per click basis. You will get an average CPC (cost per click) based on the current going rates. You can also request a list of similar words to the ones you entered so get a wider set of search terms and find out what their advertising worth can be.

When I was researching for high paying keywords for my Dubai City Site, I found some search terms such as Dubai jobs and Dubai hotels that paid up to $10 per click on average. You can even play the “what if” game. What if you had X amount of visitors viewing Y amount of pages per day? What about those Y number of pages lead to Z number of clicks? How much will you make daily? This certainly gets you excited.

To use this tool you need a Google AdWords account. You don’t have to spend money on advertising, but you do need an account. I actually recommend AdSense publishers to learn what AdWords is and how it works to better understand AdSense. As you will find out, there is no AdSense without AdWords. But AdWords can (and did) exist without AdSense.

Word Tracker – The Ultimate Keyword Research Tool

This is a must have tool if you want to succeed online with your website or blog. I don’t think there is ANYONE making money online that do not use this tool. This is a tool that will tell you what are the hottest and most searched for keywords on the Internet in your subject niche.

This is straight from their website:

"Wordtracker helps website owners and search engine marketers identify keywords and phrases that are relevant to their or their client's business and most likely to be used as queries by search engine visitors."

Trust me, this is an understatement. Word Tracker gives you a demand component, a supply component (number of web pages focusing on that keyword) as well as a profitability component (what is the monetization potential for that keyword). In a nutshell, how many times each word is searched for on the Internet, how many other websites are found for that word, and what are the chances of you making money as well as how much (in relative terms).

There is no doubt that this is the best keyword research tool out there. Just search the web and you will see what I mean. This is what successful website and blog owners use to determine what keywords to use when they build web pages and content for their blogs (posts).

You can find out your competition and focus on words that yield the highest profitability potential. Why compete with the many when you can focus on search terms that will likely place you on Google’s page one? Think about it, how many times do you go beyond the first page of Google when you use it to search? Your website and blog visitors are no different. You want to be found on page one and Word Tracker helps you do this!

As you can imagine, this is not a cheap tool to use. But, they do offer a free trial. I suggest signing up for the free trial. Your trial period should be enough to make a significant different in your earnings and the direction in which you point your website or blog toward. Most, if not all, highest AdSense earners are subscribed to the monthly package. But you can do a lot of damage from the free trial package alone so make sure you take advantage of the offer.

Adsense Accelerator

You can download this detailed market research tool and easily use it to find the best keywords in your niche. I have used this tool and had a very good experience with it. But it’s nothing I could not have done on my own using the tools I’ve talked about here, but it just would have taken much longer.

It’s a great way to have the software do the work for you and save time. This was free when I used it. But I’ve studied this site and do not see a revenue model for them, which I am sure is coming. No one works for free do they? So my recommendation would be to use it while it is free, but as you know I just have a problem opening my wallet and paying someone :-) I DO NOT like spending money.

Google AdSense Competitive Ads Filter

Once you have signed up for an AdSense account, you will have this feature available in your account under “AdSense Setup”. This is where you can list out URLs that you don’t want displaying ads on your web pages. I don’t think there is a limit to how many sites you can add to this “blacklist”.

Now why should you do this?

a) Google is close to perfect, but not perfect. This means that it may sometimes display irrelevant ads on your website. Irrelevant ads look odd and may give the impression that you (the site or blog) owner doesn’t know what you are doing. Case in point, when I started displaying AdSense ads on my Dubai City Site I noticed ads appearing from merchants selling boats and motorcycles. I immediately listed those merchants on my blacklist and I never saw those ads again. I have fine tuned my account enough so that 90% or so of ads shown on my site are quite relevant to the content of my web pages.

b) Prevent competition from taking your traffic away. You have two main competitors when making money with Google AdSense. First, your direct competitors (who sell the same products as you), and second, people that steal your traffic and make money by displaying ads to them from their websites and blogs.

-Competitors – First of all if you are an Ecommerce website you should think twice before displaying AdSense ads. Why? Think about it. If you are selling perfumes online, do you really want other perfumes websites to be advertising on your website? Yes you might make a few cents when a visitor clicks on an ad, but wouldn’t you rather make more selling a bottle of perfume instead?

-Thieves - Eliminate low paying ads from appearing on your website or blog. Ever heard of AdSense arbitrage? Essentially it is when someone pays you a penny and steals your visitor and then present an ad to the visitor that would earn them a quarter. Read the next tip to learn how to find these low balling advertisers who have started websites with the sold purpose of stealing traffic from you.

Keep the “filter” feature in mind and keep adding the bad apples to your list as you discover them.

Ads Blacklist

This one probably helped me the most. Ads Blacklist is dedicated to finding all the Google AdWords publishers that have very low payouts. See what happens is that some sneaky publishers bid really low for certain keywords in hopes to steal website traffic from you and route it to other merchants that would pay them more.

I am sure you have seen one page websites with nothing but links to other sites right? These one pagers advertise on your site (you might get paid a couple cents) but when your visitor clicks the link they end up on the one page site where there are more high paying ads that will make the one pager site rich and not you.

The Blacklist will provide you a list of provider domains to avoid, so that you can filter your ads and not allow them to steal your traffic. You’d rather have genuine ads posted by merchants that pay you well per visitor click.

Check out this short paragraph from the Blacklist site that sums it all. . .

"...providing you with list of most commonly filtered websites whose webmasters use AdWords to attract visitors for low price click so they can convert it to high price click on their own MFA (Made for AdSense) site(s). In order to STOP these type of actions going on your sites, all you need to do is to paste our specially generated list to your AdSense Setup -> Competitive Ad Filter list."

This has been God-sent and has significantly improved my earnings per click results.

Most of the tools mentioned here, as well as others that you will discover, can be used activities other than AdSense. Why? Think about it. The most searched for keywords are the highest in demand. So chances are that these are the same keywords that will pay you the most per click correct?

Interesting how it’s all interrelated isn’t it? I love the Internet. Once you have figured out how things work, you can pretty much write your own ticket to whatever you want.

Earning serious dollars from Google Adsense depends a lot on your ability to optimize both your website or blog as well as your Adsense ads.

The first step is learning how to create a high traffic website or blog. The second step is to apply Google Adsense ads in the best way possible to maximize your earnings. The tools discussed in this section certainly helped me out a lot and I am sure they will help you to.

Finally, I attribute most of my success with Google Adsense to my website, which generates thousands of unique visitor hits on a monthly basis. If you want to make serious money with Adsense, I strongly recommend reading the solution to building a long term Adsense compatible website.

I hope you enjoyed these tips – Good luck to you~
